Ogun State to Hold Local Government Elections on November 16

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has announced that the local government elections will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The elections will cover the chairmen positions for the 20 local governments and councilors for the 236 wards. Voting will occur from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

This announcement follows the expiration of the tenure of the local government chairmen on July 26, 2024. Heads of Local Government Administrations (HOLGAs) have since been managing the council areas.

OGSIEC Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, stated that prospective candidates must obtain their nomination forms by Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Completed forms should be submitted by Friday, November 1, 2024.

Osibodu’s statement highlighted that, according to Section 10 (1) of the Ogun State Electoral Law 2007, the election will be conducted between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Candidates and political parties are advised to refer to the Guidelines for Local Government Elections, available at the OGSIEC headquarters and the offices of Electoral Officers in the 20 local government areas.

The names of successful candidates will be published by November 4, 2024. All parties are encouraged to support the commission to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
