Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has instructed a thorough investigation into the incidents of violence documented during the governorship elections held on November 11 in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.
The directive, outlined in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday in Abuja, mandates the Electoral Offences Desk officers, operating under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, to initiate the investigative process.
Egbetokun praised the collaborative efforts of other security operatives in providing substantial support to the Nigeria Police Force during the elections. He expressed appreciation for the dedication and meticulousness exhibited by these security personnel in overseeing the electoral process, emphasizing the productivity and commendable nature of their actions.
Despite earlier threat assessments and anticipated challenges from various sources, Egbetokun acknowledged the seamless and efficient conduct of the electoral process in the three states. He specifically recognized the exceptional efforts of security personnel in upholding law and order, safeguarding the electoral proceedings, and ensuring the overall safety of citizens.
