NSCDC denies alleged killing of students in FCT school

On Thursday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) refuted media claims suggesting that its operatives were responsible for the deaths of two children at a secondary school in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

Ms Comfort Okomanyi, the spokesperson for the NSCDC’s FCT command, clarified that the students involved were alive and undergoing recovery at a medical facility in the FCT.

Mr Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, personally visited the injured pupils on Thursday, as reported by Okomanyi.

Contrary to media reports indicating that two students from Gwarinpa Junior Secondary School were accidentally shot by NSCDC personnel following a clash between suspected cult groups, Okomanyi asserted that an inquiry team, led by NSCDC Commandant-General Mr Ahmed Audi, had been established to investigate the matter.

Audi further revealed the NSCDC’s commitment to enforcing an internal disciplinary system to hold accountable any personnel found responsible for the unfortunate incident.

In expressing regret, he stated, “The corps apologizes to the parents and guardians of the two students who were unintentionally injured during the intervention and promises to cover the incurred medical expenses during their treatment.”
