The Nigerian Army has successfully killed a notorious terrorist commander, Munzur Ya Audu, in Yobe State. The capture was revealed at a press conference by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, in Abuja on Thursday.
General Buba confirmed that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the capabilities of terrorist groups, including targeting their logistics bases and structures linked to terrorism.
In addition to eliminating Ya Audu, the troops seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition during the operation. The haul included 145 assorted weapons, such as one GPMG, two PKT guns, 68 AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, and 24 fabricated rifles. The recovery also included 28 Dane guns, six locally made pistols, eight pump-action guns, one hand grenade, four fabricated hand grenades, one RPG bomb, and three explosives.
Furthermore, the troops recovered thousands of rounds of ammunition, including 2,093 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 246 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 317 rounds of GPMG/PKM ammo, as well as shotgun cartridges and other munitions.
The Nigerian military continues its push to weaken the operational capacity of terror groups in the region, with this operation marking a significant victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
