Nigerian Police to Deploy 10,000 Constables, Target 30,000 Annual Recruitment – IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that 10,000 newly trained police constables will be deployed to their respective states of origin to strengthen community policing efforts.

This revelation was made during the Passing-Out Parade at the Police Training School, Bauchi, on Thursday. The event marked the culmination of a six-month intensive training program, as confirmed in a statement by the Nigerian Police Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Boosting Nigeria’s Policing Capacity

The 10,000 constables, trained in both physical and intellectual aspects of law enforcement, are expected to enhance Nigeria’s police capacity in addressing complex security challenges.

Egbetokun, represented by Bauchi State Police Commissioner Auwal Muhammad, emphasized the importance of professionalism, fairness, and friendliness in the constables’ duties.

In his address, he said:

“Today’s Passing-Out Parade signifies a pivotal transition for these individuals, as they formally assume their roles as professional police officers, leaving their civilian status behind and embarking on a career of service and duty.”

Annual Recruitment Plan

The Inspector General also highlighted the Federal Government’s plan to recruit 30,000 constables annually. Approved by President Bola Tinubu, this initiative aims to strengthen internal security and enhance police performance across the nation.

Egbetokun further noted that this recruitment drive would bolster police service delivery nationwide and support law enforcement agencies in adapting to modern challenges.

Comprehensive Training Curriculum

The constables were trained in line with a research-based curriculum that focused on:

  • Fundamental policing ethics
  • Modern law enforcement principles
  • Community policing strategies

Egbetokun expressed confidence in the constables, stating that the knowledge and skills imparted during their training would enable them to contribute effectively to Nigeria’s law enforcement framework.

Looking Ahead

With the deployment of these 10,000 constables and the planned annual recruitment of 30,000 officers, Nigeria’s police force is set to undergo a significant transformation. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving internal security and addressing the nation’s evolving security needs.
