‘Nigeria we hail thee’: NASS entertaining Tinubu – Adeyanju on nat’l anthem

On Thursday, rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, criticized the National Assembly for what he perceived as an attempt to entertain President Bola Tinubu and obstruct progress for Nigerians.

Tinubu had signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, reinstating the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

In response, Adeyanju questioned how reintroducing the old national anthem would address the current economic challenges facing the country.

Adeyanju expressed his frustration with the National Assembly’s actions, accusing them of prioritizing entertainment for the president over addressing the pressing needs of Nigerians.

He highlighted the dire economic situation in the country, citing record-high inflation, recent brutal murders of students, and rampant kidnappings. Adeyanju criticized the lack of response from Nigerian leaders, contrasting it with the proactive measures expected from leaders like the American President.

Questioning the relevance of reintroducing the old national anthem amid the country’s challenges, Adeyanju emphasized the disconnect between the government’s actions and the urgent needs of the people.

He criticized Nigerian leaders for their detachment from reality, attributing their focus on trivial matters to their affluence and disconnection from the daily struggles of ordinary citizens. Adeyanju also expressed disappointment with the National Assembly’s failure to address critical issues and called for a shift away from conventional politicians during elections.

Adeyanju concluded by urging Nigerians to seek alternative leaders who prioritize genuine reforms and address the nation’s pressing issues.
