Nigeria has made a decision regarding Augustine Eguavoen amid speculation linking former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane to the position.

Super Eagles’ Coaching Carousel Continues

The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, has been plagued by coaching instability this year, with three different coaches taking charge.

Augustine Eguavoen, the federation’s technical director, has been appointed as interim coach following the departure of Finidi George. Eguavoen has led the team to a victory over Benin and a draw against Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Eguavoen will continue in his role and lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming matches against Libya.

This year, Jose Peseiro was the initial coach, guiding the team to a silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Finidi George then took over but was dismissed after a short tenure.

The permanent Super Eagles position remains vacant, with former South African coach Pitso Mosimane being linked to the role. If Eguavoen leads the team to impressive victories against Libya, he may be considered for the permanent position.

Eguavoen has previously coached the Super Eagles on two separate occasions.
