Nigeria and China Should Surpass $13 Billion Trade Volume – Speaker Abbas

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called for Nigeria and China to work towards exceeding their current bilateral trade volume of $13 billion.

Abbas made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja during a visit by Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress. The Chinese delegation, which included Ambassador Yu Dunhai and other officials, met with Abbas to discuss strengthening ties between the two nations.

Highlighting the benefits of the Nigeria-China partnership, Abbas praised China’s dedication to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He noted that China’s role as Nigeria’s largest trading partner has significantly boosted Nigeria’s economy through investments in rail, agriculture, and manufacturing.

“The bond between Nigeria and China is built on mutual respect, collaboration, and shared aspirations,” Abbas said. “This partnership has delivered remarkable results in trade, infrastructure development, technology transfer, and cultural exchanges.”

Zhang Qingwei, in his remarks, called for enhanced cooperation between the legislatures of both countries and proposed more bilateral agreements to foster innovation. He also expressed China’s interest in expanding exchange programs with Nigeria, stating, “We are willing to step up exchanges.”

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to deepening their strategic relationship for mutual benefit.
