President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled initiatives aimed at guaranteeing a consistent provision of food, enhancing its security, and ensuring affordability for Nigerians.
In his New Year address to the nation on Monday, Tinubu affirmed his administration’s commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians. He outlined plans for an ambitious agricultural project that involves cultivating 500,000 hectares of farmland nationwide for the production of key crops such as maize, rice, wheat, millet, and other staples.
In his words, “To ensure a steady supply of food, enhance security, and maintain affordability, we will intensify efforts to cultivate 500,000 hectares of farmland across the country, focusing on the cultivation of maize, rice, wheat, millet, and other essential crops. We kick-started the dry season farming initiative with 120,000 hectares of land in Jigawa State last November under our National Wheat Development Programme.”
