Naira scarcity: Call CBN to order now, TUC tells Tinubu

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has expressed concern over the acute scarcity of the Nigerian currency, the Naira, across the country. In a statement signed by TUC President Comrade Festus Osofo and Secretary General Comrade Nuhu Toro, the labor center called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and urge the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to address the issue.

According to the TUC, the scarcity of the Naira has led to difficulties for citizens in accessing the currency from banks and ATMs, forcing them to resort to extortionist Point of Sale (POS) operators who charge high rates. The TUC expressed amazement at the CBN’s apparent difficulty in making the currency available to the working people and citizens.

The statement emphasized the unfortunate and unacceptable nature of the situation, stating that Nigerians are facing needless hardships caused by insensitive and heartless actions of government agencies. The TUC called on the Tinubu Administration to take prompt and decisive action to address the issue and ensure that monetary and fiscal policies work in the interest of the people.

The TUC warned that if the Naira scarcity persists, they would be forced to consider exploring their usual options when the working people feel pushed to the wall. The statement indicates a sense of urgency and frustration on the part of the TUC regarding the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, especially during the Yuletide season.
