NAFDAC has closed down medicine stores and pharmacies found selling prohibited substances.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) took action on Thursday by shutting down two medicine stores and a pharmacy located in the Idumota and Surulere neighborhoods of Lagos. This decision was made due to the establishments’ involvement in the sale of unregistered and controlled pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Afolabi Aderemi, Deputy Director of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, explained that the operation was initiated based on intelligence inputs received regarding these stores.

Aderemi stated, “We are here today because we received information that controlled drugs are being sold in these shops. According to the International Convention, there are 71 drugs that should not be sold by individuals or pharmacies, and we have evidence that the sealed shops are engaging in illegal activities.”

He emphasized that this situation involves organized crime, and NAFDAC is taking comprehensive measures to discourage the purchase of unregistered drugs. The proprietors of the closed establishments have been summoned to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
