Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that his life took a significant turn for the better after the tragic death of his son. Mohbad passed away on September 11, 2023, under controversial circumstances, at the age of 26.
In an interview with media personality Akin Abolade, also known as Mrlilgaga, published on Tuesday, Mr. Aloba shared how his life has transformed following the loss, attributing the changes to divine intervention and the spirit of his late son.
“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he is my friend. He had it in plan to do many things for me but they didn’t allow him to do them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad, and that of God combined together that began to send people to assist me,” he said.
Aloba revealed that through the kindness of Nigerians, he has received several gifts, including a car, truck, and other assets. He expressed his belief that these acts of generosity were guided by the combined forces of Mohbad’s spirit and divine providence. “Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me and it is beyond ordinary,” he added.
Reflecting on his son’s struggles, Aloba noted that many of Mohbad’s plans were hindered, particularly his property dealings. He alleged that much of Mohbad’s estate was controlled by his wife, Wunmi, and her family. “All his landed property is in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church, I forced him to buy and mould the blocks on it, which was later used to bury him,” he said.
Aloba also recalled how Mohbad had planned to buy him a house after completing his tour, and that the payment for the house was already made before his untimely death.
Reflecting on his own journey, Aloba explained that Mohbad’s birth marked a turning point in his life. After money was stolen from Mohbad’s naming ceremony, Aloba became a singer, with his late son serving as his backup singer from the age of one.
A carpenter, singer, and pastor without a physical church, Aloba shared that Mohbad had promised to build him a church before his passing.
Since Mohbad’s death, Aloba has released nine tracks and received substantial support from Nigerians.
