Meta Cracks Down on Leaks Amid Zuckerberg’s Political Shift
Meta has reportedly fired 20 employees for leaking internal company information to the media. The move comes as CEO Mark Zuckerberg faces growing scrutiny over his apparent political alignment with former US President Donald Trump.
Meta’s Strict Policy on Leaks
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the layoffs, stating:
“We tell employees when they join the company, and we offer periodic reminders, that it is against our policies to leak internal information, no matter the intent.”
The company’s internal investigation led to the termination of roughly 20 workers, with Meta warning that more firings could follow.
“We take this seriously and will continue to take action when we identify leaks,” the statement added.
Zuckerberg’s Response to Leaks
The crackdown followed a series of reports detailing Zuckerberg’s private meetings with employees. In one such meeting, he expressed frustration over information leaks, saying:
“We try to be really open, and then everything I say leaks. It sucks.”
Reports also revealed that Zuckerberg urged employees to “buckle up” for the coming year and emphasized Meta’s intent to maintain a productive relationship with the White House.
Zuckerberg’s Shift Toward Trump and the GOP
Zuckerberg’s political leanings have become a hot topic, with observers noting his increasing ties to Trump and conservative leaders:
- He has dined with Trump multiple times.
- Meta eased up on content moderation and ended Facebook’s US fact-checking program.
- The company appointed Trump ally Dana White to its board.
- Zuckerberg replaced Meta’s political affairs chief with a Republican figure.
This shift comes despite past tensions—Trump had previously threatened Zuckerberg with prison over Facebook’s ban on his account following the January 6 Capitol riot.
Tech’s Conservative Shift?
Zuckerberg isn’t alone in his warming stance toward Trump. Other tech leaders, including Elon Musk, have also shown support for conservative ideologies.
In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Podcast, Zuckerberg argued that:
“A lot of the corporate world is pretty culturally neutered,” and that embracing masculine energy “is good.”
What’s Next for Meta?
With these controversial shifts, Meta continues to navigate political pressures, content moderation challenges, and internal conflicts. As more leaks emerge, further layoffs could be on the horizon.
