Lawyers Urge Bauchi State Government for Transparency in Anti-Corruption Efforts
Lawyers for the Cause of Bauchi (LAWBA) is calling on the Bauchi State government to maintain transparency in its anti-corruption efforts. The group expressed concerns that recent events may indicate a weakening commitment to the rule of law and anti-corruption measures.
LAWBA’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Hussaini, reiterated the group’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and combating corruption. He emphasized the significance of these issues, particularly in light of the hardships faced by many citizens due to the actions of corrupt officials.
LAWBA criticized Bauchi State’s anti-corruption commission for illegally arresting the former Accountant-General, Abubakar Sa’idu, based on a previous court ruling invalidating the commission.
LAWBA recommended that the Bauchi State government refer corruption cases, including the arrest of Abubakar Sa’idu, to federal agencies like the EFCC and ICPC. They expressed confidence in these federal institutions and emphasized the need for a transparent and impartial investigation.
The group also questioned the government’s explanation for the alleged offenses Sa’idu committed, suggesting that more individuals might be involved. They called for full disclosure and accountability from the government to ensure public trust.
LAWBA appealed to other citizens to join them in advocating for a genuine fight against corruption. They commended fellow lawyers and concerned citizens for their efforts in raising awareness about this issue.
The group stated their intention to continue legal action to ensure the rule of law and justice in Bauchi State.
