The Enugu State Police Command has officially confirmed engaging in a firefight with suspected kidnappers within a forest at Agbogazi-Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area. In a statement released on Tuesday by the Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding the activities of the assailants in the region.
The PPRO highlighted that upon encountering the police operatives, the criminals opened fire, resulting in a gun battle within the forest. The law enforcement officers, described as “gallant and tactful,” retaliated effectively, resulting in the neutralization of one kidnapper. The remaining assailants managed to escape, sustaining serious gunshot wounds.
The statement further disclosed the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with nineteen rounds of live ammunition from the apprehended criminals. Ongoing efforts involve intensified manhunt operations aimed at capturing the fleeing suspects.
Additionally, the police operation successfully rescued individuals reported to have been kidnapped along Ette Road in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area while traveling to Abuja last week. Collaborative efforts with other security personnel contributed to the success of the rescue mission.
