Lakurawa Terror Group Will Soon Be History – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has assured Nigerians that the Lakurawa terror group, which has been terrorizing parts of Northern Nigeria, will soon be a thing of the past.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Monday, General Oluyede highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance national security and tackle the increasing threat posed by the Lakurawa group. He confirmed that alternative strategies were being explored to improve the nation’s security landscape and bring lasting peace to affected regions.

The COAS, who recently toured various army formations, expressed confidence that Nigeria’s collaboration with neighboring countries would play a crucial role in eradicating the Lakurawa group. “We are hitting them hard at the Nigerian end, and once you hit them here, they tend to flee to Niger Republic. Now that Niger Republic is coming on board, that means very soon, Lakurawa will be a thing of the past,” Oluyede stated.

Emphasizing the importance of a unified regional approach, he explained that the cross-border nature of insurgencies required cooperation among neighboring nations to address the threats more effectively. “We need to collaborate with neighboring countries because these issues affect them too. By working together, we can tackle the threat more comprehensively,” he said.

During the meeting, General Oluyede also briefed President Tinubu on his plans for enhancing national security following his recent appointment. He reassured the president of his commitment to improving Nigeria’s security situation, adding, “I will do my best to make Nigeria better in terms of security. I’m going to explore doing things differently to achieve results that will significantly improve our security situation.”

Reflecting on his recent visits to army formations in the northwest and northeast, Oluyede reaffirmed his dedication to motivating the troops under his command. “I spoke with my officers and soldiers to make them realize the need to end all forms of insecurity in Nigeria. I made it clear that I intend to do things differently and expect better results going forward,” he said.
