Lagos Sets N8.5m as Initial Deposit for 2025 Hajj.

The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has established an initial deposit of N8.5 million for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

The board has urged prospective pilgrims traveling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to visit its office and collect the Hajj form.

The Board Secretary, Mr. Saheed Onipede, made this announcement in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Taofeek Lawal, on Wednesday.

Onipede noted that the Hajj form costs N20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira only) and stated that intending pilgrims must pay an initial deposit of N8,500,000, pending the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON)’s official fare announcement for the 2025 Hajj.

Reports indicate that NAHCON has not yet set the Hajj fare, although states have begun collecting deposits.

“In light of the current economic conditions in the country, the Board has decided to offer flexible payment options, allowing intending pilgrims to pay in installments, making it easier for them to fulfill their spiritual obligations,” Onipede stated.

He advised that interested Muslims should refrain from making payments into personal accounts.

Instead, applicants should obtain a ‘Bank Draft’ from any commercial bank made out to the ‘Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board’ and submit it to the Accounts department to receive an official receipt for the amount paid.

Onipede assured that if the actual Hajj fare announced by NAHCON is lower than N8.5 million, the Board would refund the difference.

Quoting from the Holy Quran (Chapter 22, Verse 27), he emphasized that every Muslim, both male and female, who is mentally, physically, and financially capable has the duty to undertake the holy pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.

He prayed that Allah, in His infinite mercy, would grant all intending pilgrims the financial means to fulfill their aspirations this year and sought Allah’s intervention to alleviate the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Onipede assured intending pilgrims that the State Government is committed to providing a comfortable experience through well-planned activities and packages.

“These services encompass lodging options at hotels situated close to the Haram in both Makkah and Madinah.” In addition, guests can enjoy visits to historical sites, regular spiritual counseling and guidance from Islamic scholars (Ulamah), and quality local food served twice daily. Moreover, access to medical care is available, among other services.
