The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has provided assurance to the Nigerian populace regarding a renewed determination within the army’s ranks to confront the myriad security challenges plaguing various parts of the nation.
Speaking as the Reviewing Officer and Special Guest of Honour during the Passing out Parade of the 85th Regular Recruit Intake at Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria on a Saturday, Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja articulated his confidence that the graduation of 6,315 recruits would help bridge a significant gap identified by the military in its ongoing battle to mitigate insecurity.
Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja went on to emphasize that in the forthcoming days, law-abiding citizens would experience a resurgence of stability and a peaceful environment, enabling them to conduct their lawful activities without disruption.
The Army Chief underlined the challenging context in which these new soldiers are joining the Nigerian Army, as the nation grapples with a wide range of security threats. He highlighted these threats, ranging from insurgency in the North East, banditry, and cattle rustling in the North West, to farmers/herders clashes in the North Central. Additionally, he mentioned secessionist agitation and cultism in the South East, as well as militancy and vandalism of national assets in the South South.
Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja tasked the commandant of Depot Nigerian Army and his team with taking some time in the coming months to review and enhance training methods to align the recruits with the evolving requirements in the field. He also assured that the Nigerian Army Headquarters would continue to offer unwavering support for the institution’s training objectives by providing necessary facilities and equipment.
While extending his congratulations to the new soldiers, the Chief of Army Staff urged them to display a high degree of loyalty, professionalism, and discipline to ensure their success in the challenging role they are undertaking.
Furthermore, during an interview with the media at the event, the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Uba Sani, expressed optimism that the new soldiers would bolster the army’s efforts in addressing security concerns. The governor made a special request for the deployment of additional personnel to areas affected by banditry and insurgency in Kaduna State to restore peace and stability in these troubled regions.
