Atletico Madrid Earns Derby Draw Against Real Madrid
Angel Correa’s 95th-minute equalizer salvaged a 1-1 draw for Atletico Madrid in their La Liga derby against Spanish champions Real Madrid on Sunday. The Argentine forward’s goal, initially reviewed by VAR, secured a point for the hosts.
Real Madrid, missing injured star striker Kylian Mbappe, dominated much of the match but conceded the late equalizer. The match was briefly suspended due to crowd disturbances, and Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente was sent off in the closing minutes.
With the draw, Atletico moved to third in the standings, while Real Madrid remained second, three points behind leaders Barcelona.
Despite the late disappointment, Real Madrid extended their unbeaten league run to 40 games. Atletico midfielder Koke praised his team’s resilience, while Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti remained optimistic about their chances.
The first half saw few clear-cut chances, with both teams struggling to break through. In the second half, Real Madrid took the lead through Eder Militao, who capitalized on a defensive error. However, Atletico’s late equalizer ensured a share of the spoils.
