Abia State Gears Up for Airport Construction and Educational Reforms
Abia State is set to embark on significant infrastructural and educational development initiatives.
Airport Construction
A key development is the upcoming construction of an airport in Nsulu, a collaborative effort between the Federal and Abia State Governments. Initially planned as an airstrip, Governor Alex Otti’s intervention has led to its upgrade into a full-fledged airport.
Educational Reforms
The state government is committed to revamping its education sector. 20 smart schools are planned across all 17 local government areas. These schools will be equipped with modern facilities like interactive boards and internet connectivity. Additionally, existing schools will undergo upgrades, and new teachers will be recruited.
Health Infrastructure and Public Health
Abia State has been proactive in addressing public health concerns, particularly in light of recent health outbreaks. The state has reported no cases of COVID-19 variants, m-pox, diphtheria, or chickenpox. A renovated Emergency Operation Centre will serve as a crucial hub for disease outbreak coordination.
Infrastructure Development
The state government has made significant strides in road infrastructure, with 147 roads reconstructed in Aba alone.
Governor’s Budget Presentation
Governor Alex Otti is scheduled to present the 2025 appropriation budget to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday. This budget is expected to align with the state’s fiscal responsibility and economic development goals.
Elevating Public Education Standards
The state government aims to improve the quality of public education, potentially drawing students away from private institutions. This will be achieved through initiatives like the introduction of smart schools and enhanced teacher welfare packages.
