As preparations for the October 26 local government elections intensify, the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has reached out to traditional leaders across the state. The Commission initiated visits to the four Emirate Councils to gain the support of these leaders in ensuring a peaceful election process.
KANSIEC Chairman, Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi, led a delegation to the Emir of Rano, Alh. Muhammad Isa Umaru, requesting his cooperation for the upcoming polls. Prof. Malumfashi emphasized the critical role traditional leaders play in maintaining peace and stability during elections.
He urged the Emir to encourage his subjects to uphold peace, avoid violence, and exercise decorum throughout the election period. “This partnership is essential for the success of the elections,” Prof. Malumfashi noted, appreciating the Emir’s dedication to peace and democratic values.
In response, the Emir of Rano pledged full support, assuring that he would mobilize district heads, village heads, and ward heads, along with his subjects, to assist KANSIEC in ensuring a smooth and peaceful election. “We are ready to provide all necessary support to make the elections successful,” the Emir promised.
