Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State is taking his case to the Supreme Court to challenge the Appeal Court’s decision that removed him from office.
Previously, the Appeal Court had ousted Yusuf, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), citing his ineligibility to run for office. The court declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.
The Appeal Court’s ruling on Yusuf’s non-membership in the NNPP during the election has caused confusion. In response, the court has instructed concerned lawyers to provide certified true copies of the judgment for necessary corrections.
Despite the initial decision, the confusion deepened when the certified true copies of the judgment suggested that the court had actually upheld Yusuf’s victory.
