Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred shocked the favorite, Sha’Carri Richardson, to capture the Olympic women’s 100m gold medal on Saturday. This historic win marked the Caribbean nation’s first-ever medal at the Games.
Alfred, who had never previously reached the podium at a major outdoor championship, delivered an outstanding performance to secure victory in 10.72 seconds. Richardson from the USA took silver with a time of 10.87 seconds, while her fellow American Melissa Jefferson claimed bronze in 10.92 seconds.
