The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) apprehended four individuals on charges of fraud for illicitly withdrawing N2 million from the bank account of Sambo Muhammad using a stolen card.
CSC Adamu Shehu, the spokesperson for the state’s NSCDC, revealed in a statement on Sunday, November 12, 2023, that the incident occurred when Sambo sent his 18-year-old son to refuel his motorcycle at a filling station with his ATM card. At the station, the suspects encountered the teenager and employed deceit, convincing him that through prayers, they could augment the funds in his father’s bank account.
Duped by their false promises, the boy surrendered his father’s ATM card and the motorcycle, valued at N640,000. The suspects involved are Sadiq Sa’idu (28), Nura Adamu (23), Sa’adu Danladi (25) from Kano State, and Sani Idris (35) from Jigawa State.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Sambo Muhammad at the NSCDC Area Command Hadejia on October 5, 2023. According to the statement, the suspects confessed to the crime, admitting that they disposed of the motorcycle to Sa’adu Danladi, who sold it to Sani Idris. The motorcycle’s actual value was N640,000, but it was sold for N265,000.
The NSCDC, upon receiving the complaint, conducted an investigation tracking POS locations used in debiting the account, leading them to various places, including Kano State. The suspects have been charged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Hadejia to face legal consequences for their actions.
