The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed its approval of the Senate’s decision to investigate alleged admission irregularities in universities. The exam body is confident that it will be vindicated through the process.
The Senate, in response to a motion by Senator Onyeka Nwebonyi (Ebonyi North), decided on Wednesday to probe allegations of admission racketeering in the country’s universities. Nwebonyi, citing the admission challenges faced by Chinyere Ekwe at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, claimed that university staff collaborated with JAMB officials in engaging in unethical practices. Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for a fair hearing, emphasizing JAMB’s reputable standing.
In response to these developments, JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, commended the Senate for providing an opportunity for the exam body to present its case during this year’s Customer Service Week in Abuja. According to a statement released by the Board on Sunday, Oloyede expressed gratitude for the chance to defend JAMB’s integrity in light of the allegations
