Italy Under-21 head coach, Carmine Nunziata, has advised Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei to consider leaving Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window if he doesn’t secure more playing time under current manager, Enzo Maresca.
Casadei, who joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in 2022, made his senior debut for the club earlier this year after loan spells at Reading and Leicester City, where he played under Maresca last season. The 21-year-old turned down a summer loan move, choosing to remain with Chelsea.
However, despite his decision to stay, Casadei has yet to feature in the Premier League this season. His only appearances under Maresca have come in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Barrow and their Europa Conference League fixture against Gent.
Nunziata emphasized the importance of regular playing time for young players like Casadei and suggested that a move in January could be necessary if the situation doesn’t improve.
“Last year, Cesare had a good first half with Leicester, but since returning to Chelsea, his playing time has been limited,” Nunziata shared in an interview with Rai Radio 1 Sport. “I advised him to see how things progress until January, but if he’s not getting enough minutes, it would be right to explore other options.”
Nunziata also hinted that a return to Italy could be a favorable solution: “The most important thing is for the boys to play. If they can find a team in Italy, even better.”
