The Israeli army is ramping up preparations for a potential ground invasion in Lebanon as tensions with Hezbollah intensify.
According to CNN, Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi briefed troops on Wednesday, stating that recent airstrikes in Lebanon were aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s infrastructure and clearing the way for Israeli forces to move on the ground.
Halevi explained that the ultimate goal is to enable the tens of thousands of Israelis displaced by cross-border violence in the northern region to safely return home.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this sentiment, stating that Israel “will not rest” until northern residents can go back to their homes without fear of attack.
Ori Gordin, Israel’s top general in the north, warned that the military “must be fully prepared for maneuvers.” In light of the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the mobilization of two reserve brigades to strengthen its position.
