IPOB claims that there is purported pressure on Governor Mba to manipulate the Supreme Court through blackmail.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) raised allegations on Friday, claiming that Governor Peter Mba is being pressured by the “Aso Rock” to discredit the Supreme Court ahead of the judgment on its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, scheduled for December 15.

The reference was made to Mba’s statement where he labeled the group as a proscribed organization. Mba made this declaration during a briefing with State House Correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In response, IPOB cautioned the governor against a “costly mistake,” warning him against using the group’s name to curry favor from the Tinubu administration.

A statement by Powerful emphasized, “The global movement and the family of the Indigenous People of Biafra led by Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have taken note of the imprudent and reckless remarks from Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mba, following his recent visit to Aso Rock.”

“Dr. Peter Mba referred to IPOB as a proscribed organization and accused us of orchestrating the sit-at-home protest, citing pressure to discredit IPOB ahead of the Supreme Court judgment on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case.”

The statement further pointed out Mba’s previous condemnation of Simon Ekpa, the individual associated with enforcing the Monday sit-at-home. It suggested that the governor may have been influenced by the Tinubu administration to implicate IPOB in the sit-at-home and insecurity issues in the Southeast.

IPOB urged the public to dismiss the governor’s statements, describing him as a “cowardly governor” succumbing to federal government pressure to demonize the group. The statement warned against underestimating IPOB, emphasizing that their silence and love for their people should not be mistaken for weakness.

The release concluded by urging the Nigerian Supreme Court Justices not to yield to blackmail, reiterating the call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who had been acquitted by the Court of Appeal. IPOB stressed that self-determination is not a crime, while the kidnap and extraordinary rendition of a freedom fighter contravene international laws and norms. It affirmed IPOB’s determination, stating that there would be no retreat or surrender, and time would reveal the true strength of the movement.
