Insecurity: Pantami accuses security agencies of not using NIN-SIM policy to track criminals

Isa Ali Pantami, a former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, has accused the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies of neglecting the use of the NIN-SIM policy to combat insecurity in the country.

Responding to a question from a user regarding the significant expenditure on the policy and the persistent security challenges, Pantami attributed the ongoing issue to the inadequate application of the policy. He revealed that a friend of his had offered to contribute N50 million towards the N60 million ransom demanded by bandits who had kidnapped six children of Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar.

Pantami asserted that the NIN-SIM policy has proven effective but emphasized that its success depends on the proper utilization by relevant law enforcement institutions when crimes occur. He expressed concern about the policy’s underutilization and cited three instances during his tenure where it had been successfully employed in criminal investigations.

The former minister emphasized that the primary challenge lies in the failure of relevant institutions responsible for combating criminal activities to effectively employ the NIN-SIM policy. Pantami revealed that, during his term, his life was threatened for championing the reintroduction of the policy, yet he resisted the threats and ensured its implementation.

Expressing frustration over the lack of utilization, Pantami reiterated his commitment to the policy and his sacrifice, urging the relevant authorities to leverage its potential for enhancing national security. In concluding his statement, he prayed for the rescue of all kidnapped individuals and called for peace, stability, and divine guidance for Nigeria’s leaders in fulfilling their responsibilities.
