The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the date for the Anambra governorship election.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the national chairman of INEC, shared this information on Thursday during a meeting with political party representatives at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. He confirmed that the election is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Yakubu stated, “As you know, the last governorship election in Anambra State took place on November 6, 2021. Given the passage of time, the next election is due next year.”
He added, “Therefore, the Commission has approved that the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election will occur on Saturday, November 8, 2025. In line with the mandatory requirement of 360 days, the official notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024. Party primaries are set to take place from March 20, 2025, to April 10, 2025.”
“The candidate nomination portal will open at 9:00 AM on April 18, 2025, and will close at 6:00 PM on May 12, 2025. The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025,” he continued.
He also mentioned, “Campaigning by political parties will begin on June 11, 2025, and will conclude at midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Voting will occur across all 5,720 polling units in the state on Saturday, November 8, 2025.”
Yakubu noted that further details regarding other electoral activities, including new voter registration, voter transfers, and the replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, will be provided in the coming weeks.
“The comprehensive timetable and schedule of activities for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election will be made available on our website and social media platforms before the end of this meeting,” he concluded.
