Enugu State Police Command, in collaboration with the state Neighborhood Watch Group, has successfully eliminated a suspected member of the Eastern Security Network, which serves as the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This operation resulted in the recovery of the suspect’s firearm, ammunition, and other related items.
The announcement of this accomplishment was made in a statement released on Sunday night by the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe. According to Ndukwe, the encounter occurred on Saturday around 10:45 pm in Igbele village along Amachala road in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. The suspect and his alleged associates had initiated an armed confrontation with law enforcement officers.
The Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, credited the success of this operation to innovative policing strategies devised to combat persistent criminal activity within the state. The operation involved personnel from the Igbo-Eze North Police Division of the Command and the NPF Special Forces.
During the operation, a pump-action shotgun loaded with four live cartridges, three expended cartridges, items believed to be amulets, and distinctive black (“Special Constabulary”) and yellow-colored berets were confiscated from the neutralized member of the banned group.
This achievement was the result of the rapid response by the operatives to credible intelligence regarding the criminal activities of these individuals. They had blocked a road and engaged in a firefight with law enforcement personnel. The operatives responded effectively, engaging in a firefight with the group and causing several members to flee with gunshot wounds.
The Commissioner of Police commended the team for their exceptional performance and assured them of the Command’s continued dedication to eradicating unrepentant criminals. He urged the people of Enugu State to maintain their support for the police in their ongoing efforts to cleanse the society and the state of criminal elements.
