Operatives from the Imo State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Unit have arrested a 36-year-old woman suspected of being involved in child trafficking. The arrest took place during an intelligence-driven operation on November 20, 2024, in Amajeke, Owerri.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, the operation led to the rescue of two children, believed to have been stolen from Anambra State. The children have since been safely reunited with their families.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to her role in child trafficking and revealed that she works with a syndicate based in Onitsha. She confessed to selling stolen children to the syndicate, targeting unsuspecting parents in both Anambra and Imo States.
The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling human trafficking and related crimes. ASP Okoye urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect children and ensure a safer community.
