Newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has publicly addressed the identity theft allegations brought against her by the South African government.
Reports from DAILY POST reveal that Chidimma came under fire during her announcement as a contestant for Miss South Africa. The South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) claimed there was preliminary evidence suggesting that Chidimma’s mother was involved in fraud and identity theft.
Chidimma, who was born in 2001 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa, is of mixed descent. Her father is Igbo from Nigeria, while her mother, originally from Mozambique, became a naturalized South African citizen. Following the allegations, Chidimma withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant and later joined the Miss Universe Nigeria competition.
During an interview on Arise News on Friday, the 23-year-old firmly denied any involvement in identity theft, stating:
“I did not steal anyone’s identity. I’m waiting for the case to be concluded. Right now, I’m cautious about what I say to avoid contradictions. This is a legal matter, and I don’t have all the details yet. But what I can confirm is that I’m not running from anything. I was pursuing a dream I wanted to achieve.”
