Abuja – Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that he remains a dedicated member of the party that granted him two terms in office.

His statement follows the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, a close associate, from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The move has fueled speculation about other political figures potentially leaving the ruling party.

However, in a statement released on Thursday by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari dismissed any doubts regarding his political allegiance, stressing his continued commitment to the APC.

“Without addressing any individual, group, or internal discussions within the party, former President Muhammadu Buhari reiterates that he remains a steadfast member of the APC and wishes to be recognized as such,” the statement read.

“He wants to make it clear that he will never abandon the party that gave him the opportunity to serve two terms as president and will do everything within his power to support and strengthen it.

‘I am an APC member, and I want to be known as such. I will work to promote and popularize the party in every way possible.’”

Buhari also expressed deep appreciation for the support he received from the party throughout his presidency, describing it as the highest honor of his political career. He underscored the importance of preserving the efforts of the APC’s founding members in building a strong and enduring democratic party.
