Hajj 2024: NAHCON issues warning against smuggling prohibited items into Saudi Arabia.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has strongly cautioned prospective pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj against carrying prohibited items into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement released by its Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, in Abuja on Thursday, NAHCON emphasized the importance of adhering to Saudi Arabia’s strict laws and cultural norms.

The Commission specifically highlighted illicit drugs, kola nuts, and cigarettes as examples of prohibited items. It emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s religious and cultural heritage is deeply respected, and the country enforces stringent penalties, including the death penalty, for those found guilty of drug trafficking.

“Intending pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj are cautioned against carrying illicit drugs, kola nuts, cigarettes, and similar items into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“As a nation with profound religious and cultural traditions, Saudi Arabia upholds strict laws against drug trafficking, punishable by death.

“NAHCON emphasizes that the purpose of the pilgrimage is for worship, and urges pilgrims to uphold the sanctity of the Hajj journey by refraining from any actions that may compromise its spiritual significance,” the statement concluded.
