Security operatives in Katsina State, comprising the Police Command and the Nigerian Army, successfully thwarted two kidnapping attempts in separate locations across the state.
ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina Police Command, disclosed the heroic efforts in a statement on Saturday.
The first incident occurred along the Jibia-Kauran Namoda road. After receiving a distress call, officers from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, alongside soldiers, responded swiftly, confronting the kidnappers in a gun battle.
“Four kidnapped victims were rescued and immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention. Sadly, one of the victims later passed away due to gunshot wounds sustained during the attack,” the PPRO stated.
In a second operation, the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters was alerted to another kidnapping attempt at Unguwar Boka village, Faskari Local Government Area, along the Funua-Gusau road. Officers once again teamed up with the military, engaging the assailants in a fierce gunfight.
“Although one victim was tragically shot, two others were rescued unharmed,” Sadiq-Aliyu added.
Efforts to apprehend the kidnappers are ongoing as investigations continue.
