Gridlock: Lagos govt enforcement team impounds over 60 trucks in special operation

This news article reports on a recent midnight operation conducted by the Lagos State Government enforcement team, led by the Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA. The operation aimed at impounding over 60 illegally parked containerized trucks along Cele, Mile-2, Apapa Oshodi Expressway, inward port access road.

The team, headed by LASTMA General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki and Director Operations Mr. Peter Gbejemede, collaborated with relevant security agencies to ensure seamless traffic for motorists and residents during and after the festive period.

This action follows reports by Vanguard highlighting the illegal activities of truckers and tanker drivers, despite the directive from the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to vacate and cease indiscriminate parking in the area.

A similar operation was conducted the previous week, where over 78 illegally parked trucks were impounded on the top bridge by Lilly Pond, inward Apapa Port, and the Sifax axis of Ijora-Olopa.

The most recent exercise, conducted between midnight and about 6 a.m., focused on evacuating and clearing the road of illegally parked trucks and impediments around Second Rainbow, Mile 2, up to the Coconut-inward Tin-Can Island Port access road.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized that the enforcement operations would be continuous, with zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and impediments along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and its environs. The goal is to restore permanent road sanity in the area.

He warned truckers to desist from illegal parking, urging motorists to inform LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck through agency hotlines for immediate action. The hotlines provided are: 08100565860, 08129928490, 08129928515, and 0812992859. The LASTMA GM emphasized the commitment to sustaining the exercise to maintain order in the specified region.
