Governor Yahaya Bello Refutes Claims of an Assassination Attempt on His Life

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has strongly refuted recent reports alleging assassination attempts against him. Initially, there were claims, as reported by LIB, that armed individuals in military attire had made an attempt on the governor’s life in Lokoja, prompting a statement from the state government.

Nevertheless, in a released statement from Abuja, Governor Bello has categorically dismissed these reports, asserting their falseness and urging the public to disregard them. He clarified that the incident in question was, in fact, a minor altercation between his personal security team and military personnel responsible for road protection. According to the governor, there was no genuine threat to his life.

Governor Bello also acknowledged that a minor skirmish occurred between the Nigerian Police Force officers in his convoy and military personnel on highway duty, both groups simply carrying out their lawful security responsibilities. While praising these security agencies for their collaborative efforts in enhancing safety for the people of Kogi State, he called on the respective agencies’ leadership to investigate any instances of overzealousness or unprofessional behavior by their personnel during the incident and apply appropriate disciplinary measures.

The Governor urged the citizens of Kogi State to dismiss any efforts by political opportunists seeking to exploit the incident for political gain as the state’s 2023 gubernatorial elections approach on November 11. He reassured the public of his safety and the adequacy of security measures in place to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process.
