Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has approved the appointment of Prof. Francisca Bassey as the new acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), following the immediate dissolution of the institution’s Governing Council.
This announcement was made in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
New Appointments at UNICROSS
In addition to Prof. Bassey’s appointment as Vice Chancellor, Governor Otu also named Dr. Fidelis Ugbo as the Pro-Chancellor of the university. The new Governing Council will include Hon. Francis Ettah and Prof. Susan Etim.
While the full list of council members will be disclosed soon, the statement confirmed that these appointments take effect immediately.
Call for Smooth Transition and Improved Standards
Governor Otu directed the outgoing acting Vice Chancellor to promptly hand over duties to Prof. Bassey, to ensure a smooth transition and a peaceful academic session at the university.
The statement also reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of staff and students, as well as maintaining high standards in teaching and learning at UNICROSS.
Governor Otu further urged the new Governing Council to work towards changing any negative perceptions of the university and to focus on driving positive change.
