Ghana’s Opposition Victory Signposts End of APC’s Rule in 2027 – PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the victory of Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Mahama, in the December 7, 2024, Presidential Election, describing it as a clear triumph of the people’s will over oppressive governance.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, congratulated the people of Ghana for their resilience in defending democracy, which led to the return of the NDC and President Mahama to power. The PDP sees this victory as an indication of the power of opposition and the strength of the people in securing political change.

The PDP also expressed confidence that Ghana’s opposition victory signals the impending defeat of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Ologunagba criticized the APC for its governance over the past nine years, claiming that the party had “ruined the nation” through its policies.

“The victory of democracy on the platform of the opposition NDC is a clear demonstration of the triumph of the power of the people over misrule and oppressive policies of government as now being witnessed in Nigeria under the corrupt, rudderless, and insensitive APC,” Ologunagba said.

He went on to say that the people’s verdict in Ghana is a warning to the APC, signaling that its days in power are numbered. He expressed optimism that, just like in Ghana, the power of the Nigerian people will prevail in 2027, leading to the return of good governance, political stability, security, and economic prosperity under the PDP.

The PDP spokesperson also pointed to the challenges facing Nigeria under the APC government, including the deaths of over 65,000 Nigerians due to terrorism, the devaluation of the Naira, soaring petrol prices, rising unemployment, and pervasive corruption. He further criticized the exodus of multinational companies from the country and the increasing rates of suicide and emigration among Nigerian youth as a direct result of APC policies.

Ologunagba called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure the integrity of future elections, stressing the need to prevent the manipulation of the electoral process, as was seen in 2019 and 2023.

“The PDP therefore calls on all institutions of government, especially INEC and security agencies, to note the yearning of Nigerians and ensure that all processes are put in place to guarantee that only the will of the people prevails in elections,” Ologunagba added.

He urged Nigerians to remain resolute in their determination to end the APC’s rule and restore good governance in 2027 under the PDP.
