ABUJA — Major General JO Ochai, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has emphasized the importance of a “whole-of-society” approach in addressing insecurity across Nigeria. He called on citizens to actively support security agencies by providing timely and actionable information.
This was stated in a press release by Major Mohammed Maidawa, the Academy Public Relations Officer, on Wednesday.
A Call for Collective Effort
Delivering a lecture titled “Insecurity, Leadership, and Peace Building in Nigeria: Dynamics and Challenges,” Gen Ochai underscored the role of collaboration in achieving sustainable peace.
“The armed forces and security agencies can only create an enabling environment for peace and security,” he said, stressing that long-term solutions require active participation from every citizen.
Commending Contributions to National Development
Ochai also praised the founder of Afe Babalola University, Emmanuel Aare Afe Babalola, for his investments in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
“Babalola’s initiatives have fostered innovation among students and staff, spurring progress in various fields,” Ochai noted. He highlighted the university’s rapid growth since its establishment in 2009, citing its six colleges, including medicine, law, engineering, and social sciences, as key contributors to its reputation as a leading institution.
Interactive Discussions on Security
The lecture, held at Afe Babalola University, also featured an interactive session where participants discussed pressing security concerns and strategies for peacebuilding. The session attracted significant engagement, reflecting the university’s commitment to addressing national challenges.
