France international Jean-Clair Todibo has been formally requested by the French Football Federation (FFF) to provide an explanation for his seemingly inappropriate reaction during a moment of silence observed before last week’s Euro 2024 qualifier.
Video cameras captured the 23-year-old Nice defender appearing to laugh during the solemn tribute dedicated to the victims of the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. This moment of silence, held before France’s 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in Amsterdam, also paid respects to a teacher tragically killed in a recent Islamist terror attack in the northern French city of Arras.
On Monday, the FFF’s National Ethics Council reached out to Todibo, sending him a letter inquiring about his actions. Patrick Anton, the council’s president, confirmed this development to AFP.
Despite this controversy, Todibo remains a part of the France team squad for their friendly match against Scotland, scheduled for Tuesday in Lille.
