Four Nigerian footballers—Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong, Paul Onuachu, and Asisat Oshoala—have earned nominations for the 2024 Best FIFA Awards, marking significant recognition for their performances in international and club football.
- Ademola Lookman (Atalanta) has been nominated in the Best Attacker category. The 27-year-old, who finished 14th in the Ballon d’Or ranking, is also a favorite to win the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
- William Troost-Ekong, a key player for the Super Eagles, is in the running for the Best Defender award. He was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s top defenders.
- Paul Onuachu, the Nigerian forward, has been shortlisted for the Puskas Award for his incredible goal against Konyaspor on November 10, 2023, during his loan at Trabzonspor in Turkey’s Super Lig. The Puskas Award recognizes the most spectacular goal of the year.
- Asisat Oshoala, the star forward for the Super Falcons and FC Barcelona, has earned a nomination for the FIFA Marta Award, a newly introduced honor for the Goal of the Year.
