Four Computer Centre Operators Remanded Over Forged Legal Documents
Four commercial computer centre operators in Aba, Abia State, have been remanded in custody after being accused of conspiracy, impersonation, and forgery of a Power of Attorney. The accused, Onuoha Ikechukwu, Daniel Lawrence, Odinaka Onyeforo, and Ndukwe Chukwu, operated at Nos. Individuals at 2F and 2J Pound Road Extension allegedly engaged in illicit activities for years.
The authorities caught the first defendant, Onuoha Ikechukwu, with over 70 forged Powers of Attorney that bore the names of both living and deceased lawyers. The suspects, often patronized by lawyers for legal document preparation, allegedly stole lawyers’ letterheads and prepared illegal documents for unsuspecting clients, using stamps and seals of deceased lawyers.
Prosecutor Uzoamaka Emmanuel stated that their actions violated sections 516A(a), 484, and 465 of the Criminal Code. The defendants, represented by their lawyers, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial magistrate adjourned the matter to Friday, October 25, for consideration of their bail application.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Aba branch, Barr. Charles Oluchukwu, commented on the case, criticizing the perpetrators for their actions and urging the public to desist from patronizing such individuals. He highlighted the risks associated with using forged legal documents and announced the formation of a committee to monitor and address these illegal activities.
