Former US President Trump Allegedly Demanded $100 Billion ‘Protection Fee’ from World’s Most Powerful Company

U.S. President Donald Trump has been accused of demanding a $100 billion “protection fee” from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s most powerful chipmaker.

Earlier this month, Trump hailed TSMC’s $100 billion investment in the U.S. during a surprise White House ceremony, emphasizing that the deal would create thousands of jobs in Arizona. However, Taiwan’s former President, Ma Ying-jeou, criticized the agreement, accusing the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of “selling TSMC” to Trump in exchange for protection.

According to Mail Online, Ma described the deal as a “major national security crisis,” warning that it could undermine Taiwan’s geopolitical standing and shake the confidence of the Chinese people. He argued that the current government is yielding to U.S. demands for investment in the hopes of securing military support while continuing its push for Taiwan’s independence.

Ma also expressed concern over Taiwan’s future, citing the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. He warned that the U.S. might withdraw military aid from Ukraine, fueling fears that “Ukraine today, Taiwan tomorrow” could become a reality. If Ukraine falls to Russia, he suggested, China might feel emboldened to take military action against Taiwan.

“Never forget—Trump is a businessman,” Ma said. “For him, interests come first. Is selling TSMC enough? What will be sold next?”

He urged the DPP to safeguard TSMC, emphasizing its critical role in national security. “Being anti-China won’t protect Taiwan,” he cautioned.

China’s Communist Party has long claimed Taiwan as part of its territory and has conducted military exercises near the island while frequently flying fighter jets through Taiwanese airspace, signaling its intent to bring Taiwan under its control.
