Federal Government Implements New Minimum Wage for Civil Servants

The Nigerian Federal Government has begun implementing the newly approved minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants. The announcement was made by the Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa.

According to Mokwa, federal government employees can expect to receive notifications about their updated salary payments starting from September 2024. However, he did not specify whether any outstanding arrears would be included in the initial disbursement.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the new minimum wage law into effect on July 18, 2024. The implementation of this wage increase is expected to provide financial relief to civil servants across the country.
