FG Clarifies: No Scrapping of JSS and SSS, Proposes 12-Year Basic Education Model 🎓📢

The Federal Government of Nigeria has proposed a 12-year uninterrupted basic education system, but it has firmly denied reports that Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) have been abolished.

What’s the Proposal About?

In a statement released on Friday, the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press, Folashade Boriowo, clarified that Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, introduced the proposal during an Extraordinary National Council on Education (NCE) Meeting in Abuja.

“Contrary to misleading reports, JSS and SSS have not been scrapped. The proposal is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition for students while maintaining the existing 6-3-3 system,” the statement emphasized.

Key Objectives of the Proposal

📌 Seamless Progression – Eliminating barriers between JSS and SSS to ease student transition.
📌 No More External Exams at This Stage – Reducing assessment hurdles before senior secondary education.
📌 Education for All – Strengthening access to compulsory 12-year education to improve learning outcomes.

Final Decision Expected in October 2025

The ministry assured the public that:

No immediate changes have been implemented.
JSS and SSS remain part of the system under the current education structure.
Consultations with stakeholders will take place before any policy shift.

“The final decision on the proposed reform will be made at the National Council on Education Meeting in October 2025,” the ministry stated.

Beware of Misinformation! 🚨

The government urges Nigerians to ignore false claims about scrapping JSS and SSS. Instead, the focus is on enhancing access to quality education in line with global best practices.
