Fernandes Urges Man Utd Fans to Never Settle for Losses Despite Struggles

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has urged fans to maintain high expectations for the club, even amid the team’s struggles this season, particularly at Old Trafford.

Fernandes stepped up to secure a dramatic stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 victory over an under-strength Rangers side on Thursday, keeping their hopes of direct qualification to the Europa League last 16 alive. This was a much-needed win for United, who had suffered four losses in their last five home games, prompting manager Ruben Amorim to call his side “the worst” in the club’s history.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Fernandes reflected on the club’s current situation, emphasizing the need for success at such a prestigious club. He said:
“At this club, you need to win every game. You know that if you don’t win games here, it is going to be difficult, there are going to be tough moments. This is a massive club that is used to winning games. I hope that our fans never get used to losing games, even in this tough experience. I want them to feel like this team has to win every game.”

Fernandes highlighted that a point away to Romanian side FCSB next week could secure a top-eight finish in the Europa League and help United avoid the playoff round. While Amorim has been focused on advancing directly to the last 16, Fernandes has bigger ambitions. “Today was important to get the win because we want to get through in the Europa League, we want to go to the final. We want to be in the first eight so we avoid playing two more games.”

In their 3-1 victory over Southampton last week, United once again needed late heroics, with Amad Diallo scoring a hat-trick to turn the game around after they trailed 1-0. Despite the thrilling finishes, Fernandes stressed the need for consistency from the team throughout the full 90 minutes.

He stated:
“It is not about proving the character, we have to prove that in the 90 minutes, we can’t only bring that out when we concede a goal or something goes against us. We need to be consistent through the 90 minutes, it does not matter about the result, we always have to be trying to find a way to win the game. Unfortunately for us, we conceded a late goal and had to score a late winner.”
