Favour Ofili, a 22-year-old athlete from Port Harcourt, has set a new world record in the women’s 150m event in Atlanta.

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili lit up the track at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, capturing the world’s attention with a breathtaking 150m run that defied expectations. Gliding across the finish line in a stunning 15.85 seconds, she etched her name into history, becoming the first woman to ever dip below the 16-second mark in this event.

At just 22 years old, the Port Harcourt native carried the rhythm of the race like a current. From the first burst of motion, her form was poetry in motion—fluid, fearless, and far ahead of the pack. By the time Tamari Davis crossed behind her, also with a personal best, the moment had already become something much larger than a win.

Breathless with emotion after the race, Ofili offered words wrapped in humility and wonder. “The Lord is good, and is marvellous in my sight,” she said, as though still absorbing what had just happened. “Honestly, I’m surprised with the time,” she admitted, a soft smile betraying the storm of effort that came before it.

There was no mention of tactics, no breakdown of mechanics. Just trust—in her coach, in the process, and in the timing of something beyond herself. “I was told to relax and treat the race like it is 100,” she shared, but even that sounded less like instruction and more like intuition.

Her stride in Atlanta wasn’t just another medal moment. It was a declaration. A rhythm. A memory. Already, her past includes records like the 200m African best set in Fayetteville in 2023, but here, on this stage, she gave the world something else: a glimpse of what it looks like when motion becomes art, and time, briefly, surrenders.
