Escaped Convict Auwalu Aminu Recaptured After Borno Flood Jailbreak

The Borno State Police have successfully rearrested 24-year-old Auwalu Aminu, also known as Auwalu Kirkir, who had escaped from prison following a jailbreak caused by severe flooding.

Aminu, previously convicted of criminal conspiracy and theft, was one of the inmates who fled the Medium Security Custodial Center in Maiduguri after the facility’s fence collapsed during the destructive September flood.

In a statement released on Wednesday, ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno Police Command, revealed that Aminu was recaptured in Banki town following a credible tip-off. The Bama Area Command and Banki Divisional Headquarters quickly deployed a patrol team, leading to Aminu’s arrest on October 16.

The escaped convict is currently in police custody and will soon be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further processing.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Lawal-Yusufu, reaffirmed the force’s dedication to public safety and called on citizens to report any suspicious activity or information regarding escaped fugitives.
